Well today was a tough day. She did great all week then we tried doing the test in several different locations and unfortunately there was lots of hesitation with several EC's and squealing involved. We had to backwash, then we had her watch Hank do it. Hank did great! We let her rest and let that soak in. Then on our final attempt, she was tired, but she finally did it right, albeit slow. The second to last one we don't think she could see it, hence the slow correction and when Rachel went to correct she moved, thus making it a poor EC. On the final one when she saw where it was, she went for it. Not the best test, but the best we got for today.
Chair Test with Rachel and Poppy
ReplyDeleteWe had not used that chair before and hadn’t placed the DB behind it before either (usually placed it under), and it was right behind the leg of the chair so I am thinking that’s why she couldn’t see it. We thought the bar on the chair might have been too low but alas! Poppy did great reaching under instead. For distractions we had the TV blaring, and everyone in the room (humans and dogs) except Hannah, who walked in at the end and that’s who she was looking at. Given how the rest of the day went, we will take this test! But hope to continue to do better with more practice.
ReplyDeletePass and yes, Poppy IS 🐢. Rachel, please stand up tall and straight when Poppy returns with DB in mouth. You are training her that the DB return to SSIF includes you bowing. It does not. Jeanne, don't point at the DB location. It is the dog's responsibility to track the DB location, as well as the DB has the handlers scent on it. A dog's ability to do Scent Discrimination (find something by scent alone) is 1000% better than your abilities.
ReplyDeleteNo Zoom today at 2:00 pm as the computer is next door and I don't want to go there and then have to sterilize everything again. We will have a phone call instead at 2 pm today. You will need the High Jump
